Testing

CDC recommends that anyone with any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 get tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection. If you get tested because you have symptoms or were potentially exposed to the virus, you should stay away from others pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider or a public health professional. The fact sheet for COVID tests can be access here.

COVID-19 testing at St. Croix Health

St. Croix Health offers COVID-19 testing at our St. Croix Falls and Webster locations. Our COVID-19 testing is by appointment only. Please call (715) 483-3221 to speak with a patient access team member to setup your appointment. You will need either an in-person provider visit or CroixCares Virtual Health visit prior to being able to schedule a COVID-19 test if you have symptoms.

  • Samples are being collected at our Respiratory Illness Clinic in St. Croix Falls and our Webster Health Center.
  • Your test results will be sent via MyChart or via a phone call. If you do not have a MyChart account, you can sign up here.
  • Results will be available within 2-3 days, depending on test volumes.

You can get tested for COVID-19 if at least one of the following is true:

  • If you do have COVID-19 symptoms
  • If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms but feel you have been exposed.
  • If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19
  • You are scheduled for a surgery/procedure or to be induced within 96 hours, with one of our providers.

If you have tested positive for COVID-19

  • The CDC has recommended the following for isolation:
    • Isolate for 5 days
    • On day 6, if you your symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), wear your mask for an additional 5 days when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people.

If you have been exposed to COVID-19

  • For people who are unvaccinated or are more than six months out from their second mRNA dose (or more than 2 months after the J&J vaccine) and not yet boosted, CDC now recommends quarantine for 5 days followed by strict mask use for an additional 5 days.
  • For people who have been fully vaccinated and have received their booster, the CDC recommends that you do not need to quarantine following an exposure but should wear a mask for 10 days after the exposure.
  • For all those exposed, best practice would also include a COVID-19 test at day 5 after exposure. If symptoms occur, individuals should immediately quarantine until a negative test is confirmed.

When can I return to work/school after being tested for COVID-19?

  • Follow your employer or school requirements, as these may vary for each location.
  • If you are waiting on test results due to an exposure, you should isolate until you receive results.

How much does a COVID-19 test cost?

COVID-19 testing is offered for $180, but many insurance companies have waived patient out of pocket cost. St. Croix Health is participating in a government program that may waive the cost for patients without insurance.

COVID-19 Self Tests

  • COVID-19 self-tests are available for purchase at our pharmacy locations.
  • Self-tests may be used if you have COVID-19 symptoms or have been exposed, or potentially exposed to COVID-19.
  • Even if you don't have symptoms or have not been exposed, using a self-test after attending a medium/large gathering whether indoor or outdoor
  • This is especially important with any unvaccinated persons or those who are immunocompromised.

If you test positive and develop symptoms, please isolate yourself and call to schedule an appointment if additional care is needed.

The 21st Century Cures Act requires all laboratories and testing providers that perform diagnostic testing under (CLIA) certificate to report the results of any test that is intended to detect SARS-CoV-2 or to diagnose a possible case of COVID-19 (e.g., molecular, antigen, antibody), not just positive tests, to state or local public health departments.
