About Patrick McDonough, M.D.
Dr. McDonough is the medical director of the Sports Medicine program and also see adults with muscular skeletal issues. Dr. Pat McDonough has a Fellowship in Sports Medicine from the Mayo Clinic-Florida and considerable experience in the field. A musculoskeletal specialist rather than a surgeon, McDonough’s particular interests are in non-surgical musculoskeletal problems. “Sports medicine is an exciting field,” McDonough said, “and I enjoy working with the area schools as well as active and ‘wanting to be more active’ adults.”
Care for adults with sports/workplace/musculoskeletal injuries. McDonough works with two general groups of adults. “The first,” he explained, “are men and women who are relatively active–the ‘weekend warriors’ who are trying to stay active but who have had some injuries over time. In the other group,” he continued, “are those who haven’t been too active, but would like to be more so. . . and who need some guidance in doing that without injuring themselves or exacerbating a pre-existing condition.”
Dr. McDonough works with individuals who’ve had workplace injuries, too, as well as athletes referred to him by the Kinisi Athletic Trainers. “We know so much more today about the many benefits we can derive from staying active,” said McDonough. “This is true for anyone, athlete or not, who wants to stay healthy.”
Dr. McDonough’s areas of special interest include sports medicine–competitive and recreational activity-related injuries, utilization of ultrasound with acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries, and optimizing/education regarding nutrition, fitness, and overall health. His sports medicine experience includes work with the National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer, the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, the United Football League, the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program, the University of North Florida, and the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind.
