About Ruth Smith, M.D.
Growing up as the daughter of teachers and as an athlete, I was taught the value of both education and teamwork. As your doctor, I aim to be both a coach and a teammate as we work together to optimize your health, whether it’s preventive medicine care, management of chronic conditions, or obstetric care. As my patient, you are also my greatest teacher, as I learn so much from every patient I see!
I love being a Family Physician and truly enjoy seeing patients of all ages in my practice. Caring for and empowering women during pregnancy, delivery, and the postpartum period is my greatest Joy in Medicine.
In addition to Family Medicine, I am board-certified in Obesity Medicine. Obesity medicine is dedicated to the comprehensive care of patients with obesity. This approach is comprised of four pillars of management: nutrition, physical activity, behavior, and medication. This field combines science-based medicine with individualized obesity treatment, resulting in improved health outcomes for patients.
I am a 15-year Veteran of the United States Navy, having served as a Navy Physician at Sea, on Shore, and now as an Active Reservist with the Marine Corps. I love providing medical care to fellow Veterans.
I love living in the St Croix Valley with my husband and two active boys and enjoy taking advantage of many outdoor pursuits including hiking, biking, boating, kayaking, and skiing. As much as I love this community, I also love leaving it frequently to travel (especially in the winter!) You can usually find me anywhere with a beach.
